The Next Chapter for Radicals: Killing Hope in "Saviors" by Rebelling Relentlessly

It's completely rational, normal and healthy to want to be liked or admired. Most people have struggled with this very same topic for most of our lives.

As an embarrassing admission, this author will disclose that during their time in high school, I would progressively and deliberately narrow my circle of friends & acquaintances to a point where I foolishly assumed that my proximity to other people would make me seem smarter, more attractive, or, even funnier than I actually was.

This was nothing more than a feeble coping mechanism to make up for my shortcomings, such as not being as athletic as other kids, had enough money to spend on clothes I'd quickly grow out of, and, I enjoyed various things that the cooler, jaded kids categorized as "nerd shit" such as playing with graphing calculators, reading textbooks, and taking a leading role in group projects.

As the rigid and artificial social hierarchies of school have faded into distant memory, adulthood has taught many generations of self conscious would-be social strata climbers such as me that personalities are superior to the superficial appearances of perception.

Unfortunately for all of us, it seems as if the only sector of life that hasn't woke up to this essential life lesson is the childish, immature, and vapid world of politics.

In politics, perception is currency. There's even a whole sector of Capitalists whose job it is to manage the public's perception of politicians even when they do shitty and immoral things against decency and the public's interest. (as a small aside, the "field" of "public relations"/"communications"/"crisis management" has to be the primary reason why the so called "developed World" contains some of the most propagandized people in history. When the Revolution finally comes, the World Parliament's first mission will be to make March 9th, the day of the death of Edward Bernays a Global holiday).

And, as of right now, the Populist Left in the "developed World" is utterly asphyxiated by the vice grip of the perceptions they hold for their "Leaders"/Heroes across the board, acting in a fashion that is no different than how Liberals unable to exercise critical thinking skills are viewing a man who doesn't think insulin should be cheap or free, hates homeless people so much that he did a photo-op tearing down encampments for people who have nowhere else to go, and either thinks calling Donald Trump a "Socialist" plays well to a generation of voters who prefers Socialism to Capitalism, or actively doesn't want the vote of that sector of the electorate.

In France, despite the fact that the notoriously unpopular Neoliberal president Emmanuel Macron performed a legal coup in all but name against an explicitly Radical political coalition which won the nation's latest elections by appointing a Conservative Prime Minister from a losing party rather than allowing Jean-Luc Mélenchon to elevate to the spot and fulfill his promise of establishing the Sixth Republic, Mélenchon is allowing himself to get painted with the same type of smears from the Establishment Press that brought down Radicals such as Jeremy Corbyn. As for Corbyn, the British political martyr who has now been exiled from the political party that he has called his home for his entire life over blatantly weaponized antisemitism claims from opponents from within his own party is now, along with other Independent politicians and exiled former Labour members of Parliament, at the beginning stages of creating a new Radical Left, Radically Democratic political party that is already suffering from the issues of formlessness. And, even here in America, there seems to be another turn towards the Populist Left. The breathless reporting, both positive and negative, that has come out of New York City of all the moves that NY state assemblyman, NYC Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) member, and duly elected New York City Democratic Mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani has been making (like his acceptance of Barack Obama and crafting policies similar to Democratic billionaire and former NYC Neoliberal Mayoral Michael Bloomberg) should make all Radicals do a fair bit of reflection as it appears that the jaded and directionless Democratic establishment is prepared to embrace an alternative direction to regain voters.

Yet, since the day-one editorial position of Black Label Detroit has been to be as endlessly contrarian and piss in as many people's Cheerios as possible, we'll put forward something regarding these developments that is bound to piss a bunch of Radicals off and seem nothing more than an "Ultra-Leftist" take, but, this desperately must be contemplated:

Believing in "Great Men" is gonna get all of us killed. No one is here to save us. We must use our collective Free Will to actually change the World into a better place.

Before we elaborate upon this position, no, this is not an editorial suggesting that these figures aren't genuine or don't actually believe in all of the shit that they're saying, what we actually mean is that the system will delivery those of us discontented with politics ready-made avenues of dissent, which will give us the false hope that change will come. Then, the system will either assimilate opposition to business as usual inside of itself so Radicals become "Reformers" & "Reformers" become members of the Establishment while the Radicals who refuse to bend the knee to the injustice of the system are politically annihilated because they pose genuine threat to the status quo, and their defeats are squarely blamed upon them by the media.

The current state of politics in the City of Detroit & Metro Detroit is an excellent example of what we mean to quantify this analysis:

Right now, the self-styled "Progressive" Mayoral primary winner Mary Sheffield recently started a "listening tour" of sorts to "hear community voices" while outlining the blueprint she proposes to follow for her first 100 days in office.

To your average Progressive voter, this seems like a great move and totally "in character" for a politician who has always portrayed herself as being close to the common people. But, for Radicals who have been following her campaign since the beginning, it's easy to rightly come to the conclusion that Sheffield is playing the part of a political chameleon.

As was previously reported by this publication, when Mary Sheffield appeared to get the jump on the potential Mayoral competition by declaring her candidacy first, she nakedly, vigorously, and repeatedly turned away from her previous Reformist positions and endorsed more business-friendly, pro-Establishment positions.

Yet, to the thin crowd that was present at the Jamison Temple where she initiated her listening tour, which was a direct reflection of the utterly terrible turnout that this historically significant primary received, Sheffield yet again put on the mask of an ambitious Reformer.

Much of what was said to the crowd at the church was not disclosed to the public when she first announced her candidacy, such as her call for the City of Detroit to implement rent control (which landlords hate, and landlord-dominated Lansing would have to allow for the city to implement such a policy, Sheffield conceded), other promises were blatantly stolen from defeated primary opponents such as Saunteel Jenkins' proposals for an Office of Gun Violence Prevention (which was morally reprehensible because Jenkins publicly stated that she was inspired to make the proposal to prevent gun deaths like what happen to her brother when she was just a teenager) as well as her initiative to bring city hall services to each of the seven council districts while proposing zoning changes for each to anchor development in a dispersed form of a "Master Plan".

Some of her proposed initiatives such as her confession that she didn't want "control" over Detroit's public school system, yet, paradoxically, Sheffield wanted to improve student absenteeism rates, test scores, and called for expanded after school programs.

On issues such as transit, she actively retreated from her initial proposal of championing an implementation of Atlanta's MARTA rail system in favor of advocating for a "regional working group" to find the "best fit" for regional transit (as is noted by Black Label Detroit's report on the inner workings of Transit Rider's United (TRU), during their public forum which sought to "educate the public" regarding the candidates' positions on regional transit before the Mayoral primary, Sheffield opted to skip the forum altogether while TRU failed to call her out for not showing up or even "empty-chairing" her despite Sheffield leading in the polls all throughout the primary, maybe local journalists should actually do their jobs and investigate both for taking money from the local Auto Industry).

Finally, Sheffield proposed a range of different bonds and funds for initiatives that she supports and new departments that she seeks to create despite the fact that, at numerous different points before the primary, she promised "fiscal discipline", which is well-known shorthand for Austerity. Seeing as the Citizen's Research Council of Michigan is predicting that the City of Detroit is currently collecting less tax revenue than before the Bankruptcy happened, and the Citizen's Research Council is also suggesting that Detroit's economy will be drastically affected even in the case of a "minor recession", all this is being compounded by the fact that Donald Trump is actively making government policy to deny that this country is in recession

As for Metro Detroit, the picture is even more bleak. Despite the wider area holding the majority of the state of Michigan's population, which, voted for Donald Trump the political outsider, it seems like we're doomed to be represented by more establishment politicians such as Michigan's 11th congressional representative and possibly a doppelganger of Marge Simpson doing a Jesse Ventura impersonation, who leads the race for Michigan's open senate seated while former gubernatorial candidate, "Progressive" and endorser of notorious Detroit Neoliberal political boss Mike Duggan, Abdul El Sayed is trailing her in the polls.

Even established Radicals such as Rashida Tlaib seem to be failing to meet the moment, from her holding signs to silently dissent against Benjamin Netanyahu's and Donald Trump's fascist's babblings to proposing ineffective moves such as launching an audit of Trump's use of federal troops when asked what the congressional Democratic strategy to get the feds' units out of cities by a representative of Black Label Detroit.

Her organization, Metro Detroit DSA, is also too politically timid. Instead of proposing or pushing genuinely transformational policies such as putting Capitalist bloodsucking entities like DTE under public ownership, overturning Citizen's United at the state level, or, backing the movement for a Metropolitan Parliament (since, even the Neoliberals are coming around to advocating for Metropolitan Governments now), they're opting to lobby for half-measures like banning DTE from lobbying Lansing and approaching chapter-wide endorsements on a case-by-case basis.

Despite everything that has been said up until this point, there are very promising signs of hope for the future.

Black Label Detroit suggests this, because, at Sheffield's listening tour, a representative spoke to an individual who asked her a question about the contradiction behind Sheffield's promise to build 1,000 single family homes and improve property values while keeping rents low. Sheffield's answer was to transfer renters into homeowners, yet, as was disclosed to us, this member of the public admitted to being disappointed with this response even though they took the time out of their busy schedule to come and see Sheffield face to face.

The embers of change are ignited in dissatisfaction, just accepting the state of the world or uncritically following various "agents of change" will do us no good at the end of the day. Dissatisfaction and skepticism are crucial tools to use in order to survive in this world and to overcome the hidden agendas of the powerful. Within Radical circles, we must always make sure that our support or advocacy for any candidate, policy, or party is always critical, no one if above criticism, and it doesn't serve the long-term interests of Radicals to sweep shortcomings of campaigns under the rug.

This author has a personal interest in perpetually pushing dissatisfaction among Radicals and never accepting the "official positions" of the Establishment whether Capitacratic, "Progressive", or even Radical:  I have gone through the horrors of the deeply broken and ruthlessly Capitalist "Mental Health Industry" because of a failed legal defense that my public defender used on my case when I got in trouble with the law because of a domestic dispute. There's been many times where I've been forcefully hospitalized against my will (which, I've been injected with "medical cocktails" that've left me with permanent side effects like my eyes rolling to the back of my head, beginning to shake uncontrollably, & me becoming non-verbal once in a while. The last instance I was illegally injected against my will, I learned that a "nurse" took me through the admissions process to Stonecrest hospital despite not being a Wayne County resident and the Oakland County police not having a transport order to bring me there, apparently in my fugue state, I told the "nurse" that I believed that "the government was after me" despite never expressing the same sentiments to family or friends and any criminal case would throw out that testimony out of hand because "truth serum"-based testimony is illegal in Michigan)

The main reason why I was roped into the "Mental Health Industry" against my will was because I started to realize that my lawyer had ulterior motives, over the course of my imprisonment I was asked numerous times about my political beliefs and my lawyer never disclosed to me that he was the former prosecutor for [redacted] County, yet, had many political ties to the City of Detroit and sent me to the state of Michigan's Center for Forensic Psychiatry because I rightly raised issues that I was receiving ineffective assistance of council and it put his career as a lawyer in jeopardy.

It was through this challenging period of my life that I learned to cultivate my skepticism of authority and relentless contempt for accepting answers from "authority figures", I learned that these types of people want to rob you of your humanity physically, mentally, and spiritually, the only thing that you have to hold on to in situations like what I've gone through is being a mental rebel, the cliche that certain things are a "mind over matter" struggle apply here.

My experience, and the experience of countless other innocent people has driven my politics more than any recession, job loss, personal tragedy, or news article ever could. If they can do what they have done to me, then there is nothing stopping the crooked yet strong arm of the state from doing the same to any of you readers/listeners if you piss off the wrong people.

Moving back to trusting our Radical "leaders" with our lives, it must be the duty of the average citizen to inform them of the misdeeds of the Establishment and steer them away from accepting the Establishment's false framing of individual and social issues such as what has happened with conversations surrounding mental health.

We cannot allow the most famous of Radicals among us to get complacent or comfortable within their positions, I started this platform with the intent of influencing the World around me and inspiring Radicals within Metro Detroit to take these ideas and implement them in our profoundly influential home. I've seen the successful spread of Radicalism here, yet, I've failed at actually building the future that I want to see. This is why I've begun getting involved with Radical organizing (I won't disclose who I organize with for opsec reasons), but if there is any lesson that is to be obtained from this report it's this:

Individual efforts to change the World are essential, now more than ever, but whatever you choose to do, you must be able to organize your actions within the contexts of your local communities in order to understand what needs to be fixed and how to fix those issues. Simply putting your faith into those you don't know and their facades of authenticity is a recipe for disappointment when they struggle against the multitude of mechanisms that the Establishment has to frustrate change.Yet, the establishment can frustrate the few in the halls of power, it cannot cope with the force of the many coming to undermine it's institutions.

In all, find out what you like, do it for free or have a small paywall to keep yourself going sustainably, organize with like-minded individuals, build dual power, and, put your life in your own hands so you can learn how to rebel relentlessly.

[MANIFESTO EXCERPT] Chapter 14: Capital & Cities in Crisis, Regional Governance Under the Capitacracy

[The following is an excerpt from a work that Black Label Detroit is currently producing that will blend non-fiction with critical theory which will provide a unique analysis into the concepts, theories, and issues revolving the establishment of a Metropolitan Parliament. This entry theorizes what a regular Metropolitan Government would look like if established by Metro Detroit's Capitacracy. Sources will be provided in the full work, which will be made available for purchase soon]

So far, this text has gone through great pains to contextualize much of the various factions, issues, and material conditions that exist within regions such as Metro Detroit will struggle with during our present time of great political upheaval, federal authoritarianism, and socioecopolitical uncertainty.

While analyzation of the various constraints and opportunities that present themselves to local Radicals is essential so that we can navigate these trying times in order to finally establish a form of government that can rightfully hold the title of an Authentic Democracy which will influence other Radicals across the nation, continent, and wider World to mimic it's creation, certain stakes must be established so that it is clear to all supporters of our movement why action must be taken immediately.

As of writing this passage, the American federal government is currently dispersing armed forces within the nation's cities on the false promise of providing "law and order" to cities and states who, the president alleges, are undergoing "crime waves". There are no statistics, facts, or figures that can sway him to recall these troops, as the president has shown himself as an individual who will simply replace government Bureaucrats who are tasked with giving the government an accurate assessment of what's going on in the country with "Yes Men" who will bend over backwards to satisfy the president's (or his immensely and immorally wealthy handlers) whims.

The breakdown of the World's "governments" and the grand supremacy of the Global Capitacracy over Republics, Social Democracies, Capitacratic Parliamentary systems, and rigid Autocracies lays bare to the people who suffer under these undead entities, that they hold our way of life in an unshakable vice-grip and refuse to relent and allow us to enjoy true economic and political Liberty.

The metaconflict of our age is obvious, there are only two paths ahead from here: Urban-centric governance that allows for the full Democratization of the abstract "economy" into a tangible, Authentic Democracy enjoyed by all, or, continued genocides, famines, wars, and eventually annihilation under the corpse of the undead Capitacratic nation-state.

Returning to the context of Urban Governance in Metro Detroit, there is no doubt among Radicals well educated on the subject that our local Capitacratic rulers have a vision for a Metropolitan Government, or, a similar entity that accomplishes the same job, which, will be molded by their interests so that the vision of a city free from the ills of gentrification, homelessness, and extortionate rents would seem "Utopian" or naive for a Radical to suggest. They only wish to suggest a Metropolitan Government that centers their needs and their agendas over the wider needs of the public. For example, the Auto Industry would continue to get preferential treatment from the new government to invest in useless self driving car technologies rather than investing in a rail network and would center socially alienating & environmentally destructive auto-oriented infrastructure in opposition to crafting more walkable cities and healthier communities.

Metro Detroit's Capitacracy has failed so far to come out with a blueprint for a regional government for all these years because they fundamentally want the workings of any new government structure to be crafted in a way that is similar to running a business, funding politicians who propose to run the Metropolitan Government who support "business-like efficiency" or, outright privatization of government functions entirely.

[EXCERPT PART 2]

After another failed attempt, Yolanda sat back down on the indentation that her rear formed by sitting in the sweltering Metro Council chambers for the past two hours, at this point, it was obvious that literally nothing was working. From the Backbenches, and with her mouth agape, she focused her contemptuous glare over at the Speaker of the House who was standing in the middle of the chamber, doggedly trying to curtail the outcries from the Opposition benches that she was sitting upon.

"Either this house comes to order, or, as is my prerogative endowed by the charter of this chamber, I will force it to come to order".

This barely concealed threat only lit the kindling of outrage among the dissenting assembly-persons while the Government's benches taunted the Speaker to go further.

"Hell or high-water, the business of the House will be heard today. And, if certain members wish to further frustrate the business of this House, then they will be ejected from the Chamber. Carry on".

The Speaker basked and appeared jovial at the outbreak of applause that ripped through the Government's benches, the Opposition benches, however, were incensed. Again Yolanda stood up in an effort to catch the Speaker's in an attempt to make a Point of Order, yet, she was picked over in favor of a Backbencher on the Government's side.

"Ariyah Christinsen, the member for Hamtramck South, your intervention please"

Ariyah, the sturdily built woman, carefully shuffled in front of other Government Backbenchers to get as close as she could to the nearest microphone before she spoke:

"Thank you Madame Speaker Khaled, all I'd like to say is that the parties opposite would like nothing more than to rob this Government of it's mandate bestowed upon us by the people of this city!"

It was at this point, that Yolanda cracked and decided to dispense with what she rightly perceived as political theater, she stood up and bellowed:

"Oh my God, you people are fucking despicable!"

She was supported by the rest of the members of the 3 members of the Direct Democracy Party as well as a spattering of Backbenchers from the Official Opposition Benches, she continued:

"Madame Speaker Khaled, today's proceedings are a complete mockery of the Democratic Process"

As she made her displeasure known, the Government's benches burst into furious ridicule. Even as they attempted to drown Yolanda out, she simply raised her voice louder and louder.

"This government think's it's big shit despite coming into power with the lowest share of the Popular Vote in this body's history, in this minuscule body of 100 councilmen, the government enjoys a majority of 21 due to the fundamentally disproportionate and unfair AV voting system"

Speaker Khaled attempted to bring Yolanda to order and force her to take a seat so that the member for Hamtramck South could finish her remarks, but now, her party members and the supportive Backbenchers raised their voices along with her'd. Yolanda took the opportunity to get to the point of her intervention:

"Now, the government proposes this bill that's no better than a piece of shit which centralizes the powers of Midwood Mayor and Metro Mayor into one office while granting members of Mayor Dressler's cabinet multiple executive positions at the same time? This is pig shit!"

Speaker Khaled resorted to cutting the microphone that Yolanda was near, yet her voice still carried in the chamber. Yolanda strategically decided to wrap up with this as the Sergeant at Arms was moving to escort her out of the chamber:

"Before my presence in this chamber is compromised, I hereby propose a motion that the language of this bill is put before the general public in a refere-"

Before Yolanda could finish her sentence, she was grabbed by the collar of her shirt and forcibly pulled off of the Backbench by the Sergeant at Arms' officers. Utterly outraged at the entire situation and the handling of their colleague, every single other member of the Direct Democracy Party threw themselves upon the men, a full blown brawl ensued"

Sunset Civics: The Death of Empire and the Birth of Mass Democracy

The ever accelerating pace of the World has made it disorienting and difficult for Radicals and plain citizens alike to fully gauge the moment we find ourselves in right now, with the "Nationalist International" moving at break-neck speed in order to implement their agendas, such as dismantling the welfare state and turning "undesirables" (who just so happen to be migrants and Muslims) into public enemy #1.

And yet, as right wing parties in the so called "developed world" grow their power by bypassing all of our established rules and norms of government, political establishment parties on the Center/Center Left seem hopelessly tied at the hip of what they farcically dub the "moral high ground" and proposing ineffectual calls for a return to "normalcy" which relies on empty symbolism and increasingly blatant theatrics.

If they aren't interested in playing the role of Controlled Opposition, then, they mistakenly believe that submitting to right-wing perspectives on "Culture War" issues will win them votes, only to be utterly humiliated come election season.

The best example of this phenomenon is the American Democratic party's handling of the second Trump administration's blatantly racist and fascistic mass deportation scheme. Following the passage of the "big beautiful bill" (which, during the process of it's creation, Dem leadership pathetically considered it a victory to force a name change for the bill, citing violations of procedure), has firmly established ICE as the American iteration of Nazi Germany's secret police with a budget larger than many nations' militaries and is now the largest branch of American law enforcement without any institutional oversight or democratic accountability.

Again, this publication must emphasize just how little the Democratic party are offering a credible resistance to this tide of repression. Michigan senator, Deep State pantomime, Ronald Reagan fan, and Gazan genocide enabler, Elissa Slotkin recently introduced a bill that would require ICE agents to display identification and ban them from wearing masks, as if implementing rules on Fascists will make their actions more humane.

These political games show that our current political structure is stuck within a "Ratchet Effect" where any possible move to the Left is institutionally blocked while the machinery of the state continues to turn to the Right. The most "radical" among the pro-Dem pundit class are calling on Democrats to engage in "retributive politics" if the party can gain control of the government again, which, basically means that they want to wage "Lawfare", a means of persecution using the Judicial system, against Republicans as get-back for them ignoring all of the "gentleman's agreements" that guided the ship of state since the 90's.

If your average card carrying Democrat or Republican were to be polled on whether or not they approved of using Lawfare to get rid of their political enemies, there is little doubt here that a alarming majority of them would agree to the practice.

In a nation where the last two election results have triggered unsubstantiated allegations that there was massive voter fraud which tainted the electoral process, this mass disenchantment with the political process has shown that the myth of the "exceptional institutions" of the American Republic are very blatantly coming to an end. The idea that American policy making was simply about working out differences of opinion rather than our government policy spelling out life or death for millions is also sobering up the juvenile intoxication Liberals have had with the system.

Now, both parties are prepared to abuse the powers of the state to gain the upper hand on their opponents. For those of you who are students of history, the current state of the American political crisis disturbingly mirrors the same specific state from Antiquity that has served as the blueprint for the foundations of the American project since the beginning: the Roman Republic.

Seeing as most people know the history of the Romans from the death of Julius Caesar and the birth of the empire, we will offer a short history of the institution that was killed in order to allow Julius Caesar to rise to power and lay the foundations of the empire in the first place:

Initially after it was founded, Rome started off as a small Italian city state that was ruled as a kingdom. Eventually, as Roman mythology goes, the Roman people got sick of the abuses of their kings that they forced their last king, Tarquin, to flee to a neighboring city state, after a popular revolution among the populace, the Roman Republic was founded and immediately afterwards started expanding, conquering the lands that the king fled to so that Rome would never be under the thumb of tyranny again.

With the establishment of this new political order, internal and external forces caused the city's new rulings class (nobles known as the "Patricians") to fight nearly endless wars to enrich these elites, while the poor (known then as "Plebs") suffered most of the consequences. It wasn't until the end of the 3rd Punic war which destroyed Carthage, Rome's main nemesis, that made them the only superpower left within the Mediterranean world, and permanently shifted the focus of the Roman public towards domestic issues that would ultimately spell the end of Rome's Republican systems.

It's actually incredibly jarring to compare the similarities between the Roman Republic and the US: both waged bloody civil wars regarding who among their populace had the ability to gain citizenship, both reached lone superpower status after the collapse of their main geopolitical rivals, and finally, both had political institutions with vulnerabilities to democratic backsliding which were utilized by Conservative politicians who attempted to block the expansion of, welfare, voter rights, and civil liberties to the poor.

What may cause a bit of controversy with this comparison is the fact that there is an absence of political violence within America in a similar way that was true for the final years of the Roman Republic, which eliminated would be Radicals such as the Gracchi brothers (pronounced "grock-eye").

This publication's rebuttal would push back upon this critique by relying on an Anarchist framework of understanding violence: they see violence as much more than simple threats or physical intimidation, they argue that violence is "a force that limits options", which, for example, can be the same type of violence you're threatened with during an unlawful detention by a police officer who uses excessive force.

We aren't just suggesting that using and abusing the Judicial branch and law enforcement agencies constitutes Lawfare, in the end, it's a full spectrum of tactics using any and all resources of the government as we can see in the executive branch with Trump's blatantly overreaching executive orders. With this framework in mind, violence has always been a cornerstone of American domestic policy. Any and all dissidents, from suffragettes, to Radical trade unionists, the Panthers and civil rights leaders, the strong arm of the law used all of it's resources to harass, repress and eliminate people they perceived as threats to the public order.

In the end, just as what happened in Republican Rome, innocent people become victims of imperial decline and attempt to protect themselves and their loved ones by desperately clinging to outdated norms of society, or, completely fixating on making sure that their enemies are completely dis-empowered.

Now, turning our attention fully to the condition of the American Republic, the way out of our perpetual constitutional crisis, for Radicals, should not to attempt to steal the utterly flawed concept of "constitutional originalism" away from Conservatives and Reactionaries. In fact, the final fall of the Roman Republic came when a Reactionary Senator, Sulla, sized absolute power and rewrote the Roman constitution to bring it's laws back to what he perceived as their original intent.

Instead, Radicals must advance an agenda of "Constitutional Metamorphosis", meaning taking the desirable parts of the current constitution (such as the Bill of Rights) and expanding them within a new constitution that'll be able to curtail the power of elected leaders while empowering the public to actively participate within their local governments. We previously reported that one of the goals of this publication is to assist Radicals in building a Metropolitan Parliament within Metro Detroit, however, we understand just as a deceased mother can not give birth to any offspring, an egalitarian form of government cannot emerge from a nation ruled by tyranny. This struggle is not simply just for Americans or those within the Anglophone world, it must be a global call to arms, a call that summons those of us with valuable knowledge or ample resources to selflessly dedicate our lives towards the cause of finally establishing the equality of all persons before the law. It is a call that should transcend race, ignore artificially created borders, animate the global poor, and radically empower a new globally minded middle class. Otherwise, the forces of reaction will kill the embers of our Democratic project and lead the human race into extinction.

A struggle for a purer form of Democracy must be undertaken for humanity to survive on this planet, there is no way around this fact. Capitalism is killing the planet as quickly as it can and we can see the consequences of the rich's bloodthirstiness year after year. This is the very reason why Radicals must craft a new vision for a radically Democratic World Order. The fact that a struggle must be undertaken is, we hope, self evident to all.

Much more could be said about the prospects of a globally accessible, radically democratic form of government, but, others have discussed this matter at length better than we ever could, so, we'll wrap up this report with this video:

This is the Most Successful Conservative in Modern History and How Radicals Must Learn From Him

Since we as citizens live within the belly of the most consequential empire within World history, all other events in lands far away from the American homeland, at first glance, feel distant and frivolous. We at Black Label Detroit not only seek to change this mistaken, ignorant and chauvinistic attitude (which could fill the pages of a top-notch dissertation), but, we wish to elaborate upon the idea that we can understand the failings of our nation, it's laws, and the ways that it's government conducts day-to-day business by analyzing yet another empire that has passed it's prime days and appears to be on a trajectory of irreversible decline.

The decayed empire in question just so happens to be America's "Mother Country", the United Kingdom, and this publication sees it necessary to dissect the UK's many issues and crises to show those concerned with the direction of this nation's political system that decline is not inevitable, nor is a slide into Authoritarian and racist politics and provide a blueprint of what local Radicals can do in order for us to seize state power while using as little effort as possible to end our artificial Boujee "Democracy" in favor of a Mass Democracy that'll stand the test of time.

However, this report won't be an unfocused, rambling history of stuffy heads of state. Instead, we will focus and take a peek at the life of someone who could rightly hold the title of "most influential and successful politician within the English speaking world". The man, who is pictured above, has been styled by masses of British workers as a "man of the people" despite coming from an upper-tier/socially elite background, and, despite this mismatch of perception, many voices within journalism are referring to him, potentially, as the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

This report is a profile of none other than Nigel Paul Farage (his last name is pronounced like how Americans say "garage" but, with an "f")

Before we focus on playing copycat however, we have to see how Farage rose to be so influential in the first place: Farage was born into a comfortably wealthy family, hailing from a formerly rural town in Kent that would later be gobbled up by the expanding borders of London. As a child, he was characterized as a bit "unruly", taking pleasure in getting into arguments with his teachers some biographers of his call "left-wing and humorless" as well as ideologically opposed classmates of his. Yet, his involvement with politics wouldn't officially start until he was accepted into the elite private school of Dulwich College, when he would become a card carrying member of the Conservative party (sometimes known as the "Tories").

Like many of the Tories within his social class, Farage would take up his father's line of work and become a stockbroker, where he amassed a considerable amount of wealth during his time as a trader, which, he would later use to bankroll his political endeavors. He seemed resigned to having a boring life within the British financial system up until ruling Conservative politicians would inch closer and closer to economic and political union with Europe, which Farage deeply rejected. In fact, Farage hated the concept of a union with Europe so much that when Tory Prime Minister John Major would sign the "Maastrict Treaty" which created the European Union and established a wide landmass of borderless trade and immigration, Farage renounced his membership to the Conservative Party in 1992 and join a political party that opposed closer institutional ties with Europe, before rebranding his new political home from "the British Anti-Federalist League" to "the United Kingdom Independence Party (commonly known as UKIP) just a few years later.

After UKIP was formed, Farage wasted no time in attempting to make his political project and unavoidable headache for establishment British politicians. Farage would win a seat within European Parliament in 1999 and would use that victory to build up UKIP as a real political force. Being duly elected as the party's leader in 2006, Farage decided to shift his focus from the European Parliament to local and national politics. He hit a major milestone as leader in the 2014 local elections and 2015 general election, where UKIP came first in the popular vote and came third with 12% of the vote respectively.

Farage's profile shook the foundations of the British political class so much despite UKIP only being able to elect one candidate despite the votes it got was because the British Prime minister at the time, David Cameron (who was also a Tory) made a political promise before the election to hold an in-out referendum on the UK's membership with the European Union, and, since UKIP did so well, he was basically backed into a corner that he couldn't escape and was forced to carry out a policy he really din't believe in. This led to the 2016 Brexit referendum which resulted in 52% of British voters telling the political establishment that they no longer wanted to be a part of the European project.

The words escape us when it comes to emphasizing just how big Brexit's victory was a victory for Farage, even though he had to wage future campaigns to make sure the break from Europe was as complete as possible in future elections, and despite running and losing seven campaigns to become a member of parliament, he caused global shockwaves and was able to affect the course of British history without being in government. The rise of Farage and his use of racist/bigoted messaging has been the cause of concern of many British Radicals who see his rise as an existential threat to Britain's most vulnerable people. People found UKIP to be so racist that, when Farage asked retired Fascist politician Oswald Mosley to endorse the party, he declined.

A UKIP poster from their 'Vote Leave' Brexit campaign

Now, as of writing this report, Farage was finally able to win a seat within British Parliament during the 2024 general election and his party is currently polling ahead of the ruling Labour Party. This has caused pollsters to see Farage as a top contender for the next Prime Minister.

While it must be seen how the British Left will withstand the rise of Populist far-right politics, local Radicals here have a clear example to follow when it comes to attempting to capture state power such as the fight to establish Metropolitan Parliaments and Parliamentary Democracy on the national stage, if we are able to flip Farage's tactics against the far-right, we'll undoubtedly be just as popular against the bigots who wish to shut-out the World's most vulnerable people and sell the big lie to the public that they're the ones who're the cause of society's problems.

So, what can we learn from Farage? Well, first off, a unavoidable tactic that we must learn is to find a way to bankroll our Radical projects. Campaigns are nothing without a strong foundation based on money, they buy ads, posters, feed volunteers, etc. Of course, this shouldn't be confused as a call to commit crimes to bankroll the revolution  (non-violent crimes though? we'll leave that up to y'all), it just means that Radicals must be willing to put their money where our mouths are so that we can see our endeavors succeed.

The next lesson goes hand in hand with the first because political movements are fleeting and failure is common. What Radicals need to do is find a pet issue that the political establishment has a consensus around and then hammer home to the public how the consensus hurts them and force them to pick a side. The creation of a Metropolitan Parliament is a perfect example because, this publication was able to exchange some words with current Detroit mayor Mike Duggan recently, and we took the opportunity to ask him about the prospect of creating a Metropolitan Parliament within Metro Detroit, he said the following:

"I think that people are happy with the governments they currently have, me and [the county executives of Metro Detroit] are all friends and we get along pretty well together, I just don't see it happening"

It usually takes decades in order to find issues that'll resonate with voters, but, with that quote in mind, any Radical within Metro Detroit would be crazy not to believe that the fight for a Metropolitan Parliament isn't our clear wedge, issue that needs to be used to break our political establishment.

Last, but not least of all, Radicals must position ourselves to scale up fast, so, like the rise of UKIP, our current political class would be scared into giving into our demands for fear of being locked out of power. and hold their feet to the fire for as long as it takes to see our movement to success.

The time for Radicals within Metro Detroit to mobilize is fast approaching, we cannot engage with politics and political campaigns the same way establishment volunteers do, our politics must seek to liberate the people instead of managing them, and the seriousness of the political moment we find ourselves in requires to engage with our enemies relentlessly until we exhaust them into submission. We must fight because no one is coming to save us, we must fight because it's the only thing left to do.

Detroit's Great Transit Grift Seems Poised to Continue [Links included: 10]

Usually, before Black Label Detroit dares to criticize our current regional ruling class, we'd ease into it by using favorable analogies, language, and a bit of sarcasm to set the tone for the information that follows our introductions in our reports.

But, when discussing the state of public transit planning in Metro Detroit and beyond, there really is no reason for us to restrain ourselves from expressing the proper amount of contempt and disgust with the obvious games that are being played right in front of the public's faces.

To put things as bluntly as possible: Our current Political Class isn't just inept at advocating for the type of transit that the region needs in order to grow as fast as possible when the climate refugees come, but they're also complicit in a certain type of grift that sees the possibility of Metro Detroit becoming the next "big" transit city as compatible with keeping the auto industry as the region's main sector of employment, and, In our editorial opinion, this charade is getting old.

This publication can suggest this simply based on the words that have come out of the mouths of our current regional Political Class and their lapdogs in our tortured "transit advocacy" field, which, has been willingly disclosed to Black Label Detroit in past interviews. And thankfully, the current state of the 2025 Detroit Mayoral Race has shattered any illusion that this region has transit advocates working within the best interests of current transit riders and potential riders who could be added in the future.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, we must illustrate exactly WHY this publication holds so many people in charge in contempt when coming to this discussion from the place of a non-transit rider: For both transit riders and those who get around by car, if you're tapped into local news and regional issues like we are, you could probably already tell that this publication is talking about the organization "Transit Riders United", or TRU for short.

Their self-stated goal is to: "advocate for public transit within Metro Detroit", "engage with the public and transit users" and "hear from the voices of transit riders" (as was said during TRU's "State of Transit" held on January 28th of this year).

Unfortunately for transit lovers here in Metro Detroit, TRU seems to be a group that likes to talk a good game, yet, their so called "advocacy" rarely does anything meaningful for our region's most needy people. For those fortunate enough to not have to rely on TRU's constant capitulation to our regional auto oligarchy, some of you might be reading this report, and thinking to yourselves:

"Oh great, yet another brain dead Leftist trying to shit on an opposing union just because they're not as radical as they would like them to be".

This publication would like to offer this in response: "Transit Riders United" might sound like the name of a grassroots,  citizen-led advocacy group that is made up of everyday people and owes their loyalty to the public. However, we're going to burst that bubble pretty quickly since it's the furthest thing from what TRU actually is and does.

TRU isn't even a genuine Union, it's a federally recognized 501(c)(3), which means that any and all donations made to TRU as well as the money that TRU spends on staff, are tax deductible. For TRU to be a genuine working class Union, who's main goal is to promote social welfare for the neediest among us, it'd have to be classified as a 501(c)(4). Basically, "Transit Riders United" is essentially just a cog within the larger nonprofit industrial complex that leeches off of municipalities in the region.

With this in mind, let's take a look at some of the people that absolutely no one  the collective people have elevated up to TRU's board of directors:

There's Nicole Brown, (who is a member of Detroit Future City, yet another cog within the larger non-profit industrial complex with their main goal being selling the people of Detroit Austerity Urbanism, which was discussed in a previous report). They also have Mitchell Montey (who's a member of PR firm Shift Digital, in a region where we're drowning in PR firms). Then there's Gilian Gainsly (who's from EGLE, the infamous organization that fucked over the rights of residents in Flint regarding their mass poisoning, and is currently allowing heavy industrial polluters to do whatever they want with Detroit's air). Continuing, we have Issac Douglas (who's a member of the Downtown Detroit Partnership, which is a private entity that coordinates all the business activities in Detroit's Central Business District, a group, whom, has almost every powerful local company as a sponsor). And finally, there's Christopher LeFlore (who's from the Kresge Foundation, a major group that assisted in the "grand bargain" during Detroit's bankruptcy).

There's also some better representation of community based interest groups on TRU's board of directors, but, the majority of the group's board members come from these politically "untouchable" institutions, so, one can have more than an assertion that TRU's campaigns can be nudged along with the influence of these Capitocratic interests.

Despite these clear conflicts of interest, there may be someone from TRU combing through this report right now with their colleagues who'd suggest that our criticisms were just "unhelpful purity testing" and also say that "TRU has done nothing other than elevate the voices of transit users who live in a transit-needy area". Yet, this rebuttal, too, will fall flat one we at Black Label Detroit bring up the events of September 5th 2024:

It was an event that the head-honchos within TRU marketed as a 1 on 1 Q&A session one of Youtube's most recognizable Urbanism advocates, who is Ray Delahanty (aka CityNerd), with a audience packed to capacity to interact with him, the organizers of the night passed around index cards which gave us the idea that we would be able to directly ask CityNerd questions and have him give an honest take on what ever question he had to answer. Yet, when the event was almost in progress, Assad Turfe, the deputy Wayne County executive, Scott Benson the current city councilman for Detroit's 3rd district, and a representative from the RTA, the governing body of regional transit in Metro Detroit, all got on the stage with him (all of whom weren't mentioned on any promo material) and then  proceeded to steer the conversation solely towards implementing Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) despite the fact that a sizable chunk of Metro Detroit having the density and infrastructure to run rail based transit.

What's even more damning on TRU's part is the fact that once all of the index cards were collected and brought to the stage, Megan Owens, the current CEO of TRU, sat there and disregarded the audience's questions in favor of asking her own pre-prepared questions to CityNerd from a document she had been holding the whole time.

What's even worse is that while Turfe and Benson were on stage they said certain things like "I don't know if we can do high speed rail here, but we might be able to do [rapid transit] with busses" & "we'll always be the motor city, you'd have to fight tooth and nail to stop that". Saying bullshit like this in front of a seasoned urban Planner and critic of bad urban design was mind-blowing to see in real time and it woke us up to the true intentions of TRU ever since.

It cannot be stressed enough that the organization is headed by individuals who'll literally say anything to appease any audience no matter how contradictory they appear. For example: Black Label Detroit asked Owens why doesn't TRU advocate for more rail-based transit after the Detroit mayoral transit forum wrapped up, and she replied:

"We would love to see more rail, we're actually working on a study looking at what it would take to get there. but, we've mapped out a 'hierarchy of needs' that bus services have to exist & get to everybody. Just like parts of Wayne County has no bus service, we're ensuring that transit gets everywhere & that it's reliable. We can't do everything at once".

(everyone should be mindful to the fact that the opt-out communities in western Wayne County already has rail infrastructure in place, so, if the county finally does vote to opt into the SMART bus network, they'd already have the pieces to use the bus network to support rail services)

Now, compare Owens' response to that of Deborah Freer, whose the assistant director of TRU when asked the same question:

"Rail studies cost a lot of money to do. But then years pass, priorities change, and we start from scratch".

Finally, we'll disclose a select set of questions that this publication asked Megan Owens in an interview so it's fully understood what type of "productive changes" the group is advocating for when it comes to regional mass transit within Metro Detroit:

Why isn't TRU not moving to reform the RTA?

"We are looking into changes to the RTA law such as not
needing all four counties to put a measure on the ballot.
Right now Macomb county currently refuses putting more
money into transit, which is absolutely infuriating, but that
shouldn't hold Wayne and Washtenaw back."

Don't you think that would be a bad look since
Macomb County never had any opt-out communities?

"We do believe that every part of the four county region needs
to have some baseline standard of transit, that is critical.
But, if Macomb doesn't want to be part of it, fine. Then we'll
let Oakland, Wayne, and Washtenaw move forward."

Do you feel like Detroit is "too sprawled out"
to have rail transit?

"Not necessarily.
I think we'd have to start slowly, but there's a sort of 'chicken & the egg'
situation. Do you create the density, then build rapid transit? Or, do you
need rapid transit to enable density? We want to do both at the same time.
A lot of this region is too sprawled to really have robust transit. But,
enough of the region absolutely could: Woodward, Jefferson,
Michigan, Grand River, if we focused development & boosted transit.
It's not going to be everywhere, but, that's fine."

To offer a short rebuttal to the last point before moving on, what Owens said might seem reasonable at first glance, but, once you do a little bit of research, you understand that she's framing the conversation around transit planning in a specific way.

Owens mainly highlights the "spoke roads" within Detroit's municipal boundaries and suggests that they could be stepping stones to a wider footprint of regional transit. However, She fails to include any other major road in the entire metro area, which is basically reinforces the "hub and spoke" model that the RTA failed to sell to the region's voters all the way back in 2016, and, if ignores the impact that WFH trends has had on regional commuting patterns. If the suburbs are going to buy into any transit plan, any proposal would have to include major suburban thoroughfares, or, include a "web" or "grid" of services that would take direct routes North, South, East, and West like all other cities with mass transit do. Right now, they simply think that cutting off entire portions of the region from transit is going to be the best course of action and they genuinely assume that it'll be a productive change.

So, what does TRU's controlled dissent against the auto industry have to do with the Detroit Mayoral race? Well, it has a lot to do with what's going on with our dysfunctional transit system, because they are a fundamentally compromised organization, they can't be expected to hold any specific politician or candidate to account for their stated goals if they're elected into office.

For example, Mary Sheffield & Fred Durhal are some of the only candidates who've advocated for implementing a rail-based rapid transit network within Metro Detroit, and yet, when Mary Sheffield opted to skip the candidate forum that TRU put on for all of the candidates in the mayoral race, Owens refused to use Sheffield's name when telling the crowd that "one candidate couldn't make it to the forum because of scheduling issues" and, to date, has not opted to ask any of the questions to Sheffield, over social media, or anywhere else, to get her take on what all the other candidates were forced to disclose at the forum.

Usually, this would be the part where Black Label Detroit would advocate for it's own specific vision for how transit should be carried out for a more equitable region, but, we'll disclose that plan after the primary is done and dusted. It's not out of fear that someone will "steal our ideas" (if you're serious about change, you actually WANT the establishment to take your ideas, most of the time, during election season anyway), it'd be far easier for Black Label Detroit to put it's thumbs on the scale when the field of candidates dwindles.

All in all, TRU and our Political Class are deeply unserious about what sort of vision they have for the future of Metro Detroit's transit, we need to enable a level of growth that has not been seen since the founding of Detroit over 200 years ago. There is no candidate, nor are there any activists out there who have "big ideas" to combat against the present sense of Austerity Urbanism. To our readers/listeners, Black Label Detroit will take this opportunity to come up with a plan that, while being as practical as possible, will spur the imagination of Radicals that can be used as a rallying cry for advocates who want to see a complete break from the interests of the auto lobby. The time for change is coming, and, it's flying right at us at break-neck pace,

Official Black Label Detroit Anti-Endorsement #2: Solomon Kinloch Assumes that Detroit's Voters are Fools and the Media Enables Him

There is a very prevalent myth that exists within American democracy: it's the idea that any and all public servants who wish to get elected into higher office may have something of value to bring to the table that will benefit the public.

Unfortunately for the people of Detroit, there is currently an individual who has a pretty decent chance of becoming the city's next Mayor, who, anyone with even a passing familiarity of the campaign so far can see, that this antiquated myth needs to be dispelled as soon as possible.

With this report, Black Label Detroit, for the second time now during the 2025 Mayoral campaign, will show this individual to be ideologically deceitful and shallow, on top of simply being just tactically dull. The individual in question who has earned this dishonorable mention is none other than Megachurch pastor Solomon Kinloch.

What has to be said first (so that Black Label Detroit isn't vindictively sued for libel) is that this publication has only now worked up the nerve and put in the effort to make this report based on following Kinloch's movements in the field after his grandiose campaign launch, as well as combing through the scant interviews that he's "granted" to friendly media outlets.

Speaking of the start of his campaign, ever since he made his first steps on stage, Kinloch has stubbornly kept critical media at arms length so that he's insulated from well earned critiques while falsely showing his congregants that he's "in the field" since he's only giving media play that doesn't ask too many questions, which, gives him an unfair advantage because literally every other candidate has opened their campaigns up to media scrutiny.

Black Label Detroit can safely make these claims with a good conscience because this publication had a representative present at his campaign launch at the Fox Theater earlier this February, the attendance of which, was primarily occupied by members of his megachurch (a substantial amount of whom, were not actual Detroit residents).

Also, despite being one of the only candidates who has at least one major "headline" policy proposal, (building "strategically placed" grocery stores in the hood, which, he did not specify if they would be privately or publicly owned) within the race among any of the candidates in the field. After he got done with his speech, he intentionally and knowingly refused to take answers from members of the press just like all other candidates have done after their campaign launch speeches.

Instead, some of this campaign advisors sheepishly gave members of the press a single-sided flyer which was lazily put together and had no relation to the presentation of his skeletal "platform" that he outlined while giving his speech. For example, his generic, boilerplate, and unimaginative "positions" were all contained within 12 bullet points with not a single "position" taking up more than 18 words, all of which, except one, started with the words "He believes".

The problem with all this is the fact that the people of Detroit are past the point of taking "beliefs" as promises, as was apparent with the first Mayoral debate of the race that was moderated by Karen Dumas and Charlie LeDuff a week ago, Detroiters are less satisfied than ever of empty rhetoric, there are glaring issues with the supposed "comeback" of the city and none of the people's concerns are being translated into action by the powers that be. Even in the debate that we are referring to, Kinloch was a no-show while other front-runners like Saunteel Jenkins and Mary Sheffield allowed themselves to be asked questions that made them appear wrong-footed multiple times.

And yet, despite intentionally missing every single candidate forum that's been held so far which has allowed Detroiters to at least get a base understanding of what the various candidates want to do for the city, Kinloch was happily invited by the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce to Mackinac Island, 280 miles away from the city of Detroit to unceaselessly promise the so called "business community" that he will work with them to "serve" Detroiters up until the point that the city government has to exercise "fiscal discipline" (austerity), which, he and all the other so called "progressive" candidates promised to do during the debate that was moderated by the Chamber of Commerce.

Even with his friendly media appearances, it is extremely painfully obvious that Kinloch does not have any real grasp of how to implement policy. Every time that he's pitched even the most softball questions, Kinloch, simply just speaks in platitudes until he decides that he's done with his response.

Kinloch's game plan, to this publication, is obvious, he wants his congregation to do the footwork of giving Detroiters false hope in what they will sell to the populace as some spiritual-minded savior while the local Capitocracy continues to bleed the city dry while he further erodes trust between Detroiters and their elected government. He has nothing to offer city residents other than empty talk.

Finally, this anti-endorsement isn't just the disclosure of an unsolicited opinion from some cranky, ill-tempered and foul mouthed Radical, Black Label Detroit would like to state that this post should be a wake-up call for legacy media covering the Detroit Mayoral race. Solomon Kinloch is the one who should be scared of losing media access, not the other way around. This is a call for all journalists covering this race to step up, let your nuts hang, and actually start asking hard questions:

How is Kinloch planning to govern a city prone to crisis while Black youths are turning their back on institutions like the Black church? Should churches be tax exempt? Will Kinloch divest himself from his magachurches and instead take on the Mayor's salary?

Those questions are necessary to ask and Detroiters have a right to know, for Detroit to live up to it's Radical potential, people like Kinloch have to be pushed out of the way.
